Common Sense Gun Reform
I am a proud gun owner and I am grateful to the Founding Fathers for giving me the Second Amendment right to bear arms. Unlike my opponent, I earnestly support responsible gun ownership. Unlike my opponent, I would NEVER pose in a group photo where every Republican is wearing body armor and carrying an assault weapon – glorifying the violence that tears at our society.
Guns kill. No number of “thoughts and prayers” will bring back a lost child. Nor comfort a grieving parent. Nor stop the next bullet.
I value the safety of our community, of our children, of our neighbors. We must replace empty words with red flag laws, age restrictions, background checks, and gun security. We must stop tragedies like the mass shooting at Apalachee High School. We must ensure that children cannot bring loaded guns (or even unloaded guns, or knives) to school, as they did twice this year in Forsyth County.
Teachers should not have to keep an ear open for loud noises – or an eye on the classroom door. Children should not have to fear for their safety between the time they leave home and the time they return. How can teachers teach? How can students learn? What is wrong with our legislators?
Our Republican “leadership” is so morally bankrupt that they could not even pass legislation to incentivize gun owners to use gun safes in return for tax credits. Not to mandate gun safes, but to coax gun owners into doing the responsible thing. What kind of leadership is this?
