Protecting Public Schools
Currently, Georgia lawmakers are pushing to redirect tax funds paid by residents to support privately owned, unaccountable private schools. If this proposal were to pass, it could strip resources away from Georgia's public schools, worsening conditions, especially in schools already struggling academically.
The Forsyth County public school system serves as a shining example of what well-funded and adequately resourced public schools can achieve. Additionally, school voucher programs often carry inherent biases, as private schools can selectively admit students based on factors such as grades, religion, or financial status.
Instead of supporting vouchers, these funds could be channeled towards improving underperforming public schools by boosting teacher salaries. This would not only attract more educators but also reduce student-to-teacher ratios, enabling teachers to better address individual student needs.
